You know security updates, right? Those big or small batches of data that your smartphone notifies you about every now and then. The ones that you look at, mutter ”great, another update” and either download, sometimes reluctantly, or ignore. Well, I am aware that this isn't rocket science, and I don't really blame you for sometimes ignoring them (like, when you're busy doing something important on your iPad, or want to pass the time on a smartphone), but believe me when I say that you should always install these updates. They are here for your safety.
All things electronic are vulnerable. Operating systems can be hacked and broken into. Your data can be destroyed (noooo, my cat pics!), your personal info can be stolen and sold, a nasty malware can be installed on your device - heck, if you're unlucky, your phone can get locked until you pay what is pretty much a ransom to an unknown e-villain. If you wish to avoid these unpleasantries, please, respond to your security update notifications by downloading them. That fun game that you're playing can wait.
What else can you do to make your smartphone/tablet/other stuff safe? A few things. You should only download apps from trusted, official sources, like App Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android. You should use lock screen, which adds another layer of protection to your phone. Importantly, you should try to stay up to date with the latest security news. If a particulary nasty attack will occur, OS brand attacked will inform its users about it and instruct them in countermeasures.
Stay safe, keep your mobiles protected and have a Happy Easter.
